I was assigned last year to design applicaiton to accommodate high volume transactions and able to generate trending reports and statistics.
My knowledge in Dimensional Modeling help me decide to adopt Fact Table in normal database to isolate reporting data and improve querying performance.
Using fact table does not always means you are building a data warehouse but its a design decision to improve data mining and query performance.
